Chateau Trotanoy's name loosely translates as "very difficult to cultivate the land", because of the thick clay soil which has deposits of iron. However this effort pays ample dividends; the wine is complex, seductive and ages very well. They benefit from the same expert ownership and craftsmanship as J.P. Moueix stablemate Petrus, with the Merlot-dominated blend being vinified in a similar fashion. As a result, the wines of Trotanoy have developed a devoted following and are consistently among Pomerol's top estates.
